Cars
in development...
This month I've picked up some news about some cars
that are in the development stages and thus only
likely to be with us in the later part of this year.
Your preferences will determine which of these you
consider most appealing and for me rallying is where
my heart lies.
Rallying
As such Spirits development of a Group B Peugeot
205 T16 was music to my ears. Rumours say they will
make many different liveries available including
the Evo 1 and 2 and versions that competed at Pikes
Peak, Rally of Pharaohs, Paris Dakar, the infamous
Safari and Monte Carlo. Technically it will be a
4wd with a dual pulley system although it's guide
position will allow an axle with a crown wheel on
it so it could be converted to a SCX type 4wd. To
help this it is said that the motor cradle will
allow the fitting of many other motors. Anyway I've
just got hold of a video of rallying legend Ari
Vatanen hammering up Pikes Peak in a Peugeot 405
T16 - awe inspiring and driving a Spirit version
is about as close as I can get to this! Hopefully
this model will mean more manufacturers producing
top quality rally cars from the 70's and 80's.
Well funny I should say that as Fly who have yet
to venture in to the rallying world will be producing
the Lancia 037. When, who know but when it does
come available I will be adding it to my racing
stable.
GT/LMP
We have been spoiled for choice in this category
of racing and it continues to be a rich vein tapped
by the manufacturers. However as well as the more
recent cars we will see 2 producing Porsche 911s
- Fly and Ninco with the latter company incorporating
their pro-shock suspension, NC-5 motor and rubber
bumpers to provide a bit of protection to the body
work. This car has such a long racing history in
so many classes I hope the two manufacturers won't
duplicate liveries but we will have to wait and
see.
Fly will also be producing the Porsche Carrera 6
that raced in Le Mans - this will be popular as
it is not readily available in this scale. Continuing
the Porsche theme MRRC will be producing the 935
(Carrera have recently released a Jargemeister version
of this) which will provide much welcomed company
to their highly acclaimed Toyota Group 5. There
are also rumours that MRRC will produce a lighter
racing Toyota which would go head to head with Fly
Racing Capri.
Slot-it should be producing a number of new liveries
for their excellent Porsche 956 and also release
its sister the 962. Also expect the Nissan R390
this year and maybe a Mercedes C9 that was previewed
at last months Nurenberg Toy Fair.
Spirit will be releasing a racing (they are all
at it) version of their Reynard LMP and Fly will
be releasing a racing version of their Lola B/98.
For fans of Spirits beautiful Ferrari 512M some
sort of good news - they are jumping on the limited
edition bandwagon and releasing a 2 car set that
should be out in a couple of months.
Others
Not much else other than if you are a truck fan
(I am now) then the long awaited Buggyra by Fly
should be with us this year - this will be a welcome
addition not just because of its distinctive shape
it will make the starting line-up of truck races
that bit more diverse. |
