From
this page click the 'SEARCH FOR SCENERY' button
to look in our online catalogue for Scenery.
On this page there is some useful information
and photographs regarding Scenery to read
and look at before going shopping.
At GetSlotted have a great range of scenery
to add further realism to your layout. If
you have a permanent layout or are planning
to build one then you can find a lot of the
materials you need in the 'Scenery' section.
The range includes Buildings and Figures,
Advert Boards, Trees in good sizes, foliage
and long grass, Scatter mats and Scatter for
Grass and other surfaces like tarmac and we
have Modelling Rock for building hills etc.
Scatter mats provide a simple way to add ground
cover to a layout and they are effective.
Alternatively, loose scatter can be used and
is very realistic. In the following pictures
of the GetSlotted circuit you can see how
scatter in different shades has been used
to add grass and a 'muddy' area (earth brown
scatter) where spectators have been standing.
Applying scatter is not that difficult at
all and it also comes in grey for tarmac or
gravel areas .
|
| Like
most things, the more time and effort you
put in, the better the results, but getting
a great looking and realistic layout does
not have to take every minute of spare time
you have. |

racing" |
To apply scatter you first paint a base colour
and then you need a base adhesive like PVA
or Scatter Grip which we sell. You can take
a short cut and use green gloss paint which
is nearly as effective and quicker. To apply
the scatter you dust it carefully onto the
adhesive, you can use a scatter shaker which
we also have in the range. You want a thin
layer, obviously scatter will not stick to
scatter so blow off the excess and re-use.
Once it has thoroughly dried you may notice
some patchy areas where you need to reapply
the scatter. Having finished applying the
scatter, when it is dry you can then 'seal'
it with a watered down PVA solution applied
sparingly with a plant sprayer, spray mat/satin
varnish is also effective, this makes the
surface much more robust, given there will
be cars hurtling across if from time to time!!

Another material that can be seen in the pictures
is 'long grass' which has been added to great
effect at the base of the barriers, round
the lights and at the bottom of the hay bales.
Adding hills and contours can obviously be
done using good old fashioned Paper Mache
or by using a wire frame and modelling rock.
In the picture from the GetSlotted circuit
below Paper Mache has been used, painted and
scatter applied with Lichen to add foliage.
Fir trees have also been added to complete
the overall effect. Of course it is not completely
accurate in terms of scale in relation to
the grandstand etc in the picture, but it
doesn't matter that much because it so effective
when viewed from a distance at the end of
the layout where the controllers are. Adding
trees is straightforward, some have bases
which can just be glued to the surface, otherwise
a hole is drilled and the trunk glued in place
.

In the picture below of the GetSlotted circuit
you can see how effective figures can be in
the busy pit lane. In the picture we have a
mixture of retro figures with modern pit crew
and the buildings are the Scalextric cardboard
ones which are pretty good for the money with
straightforward assembly and no painting is
required. There is also a range of modern plastic
buildings available from Scalextric and Carrera.

Adding buildings to the circuit really brings
the layout alive. Scalextric buildings can be
quite effective if they are in the right surroundings.
In the picture below, you can see that the Scalextric
grandstand works really well.

SCX also have a range of plastic buildings that
do not require painting, just a small amount of
assembly. They are terrific value and really help
make a circuit.

Adding
lighting to your circuit can have quite a dramatic
effect. Achieved below with globe style Christmas
lights for the ground lighting.
